ALASKA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
GUS SCHUMACHER
Congrats to Gus Schumacher on being named Alaska Athlete of the Week!
The Anchorage skier won his first Senior National Championship title in his debut
national championship race. Just 19 years old, the Service High School grad won
the men's 1.5-kilometer freestyle sprint in 3:02.95 against a deep field that included
several Olympians. Gus followed this spectacular effort with a 2nd place finish
in the 15K interval start freestyle.
The winner is selected by a panel each Friday and announced Saturday at 11 a.m.
on the Sports Guys on CBS Sports Radio 590AM and 96.7FM. View past winners here.

Athlete of the Decade Announced!
Big congratulations to Kikkan Randall [[link removed]].
She is our Alaska Athlete of the Decade!
Thanks to everyone that voted - nearly 2,500 of you! All 16 of our candidates received
significant consideration but in the end it was Kikkan!
We also had some great write-in suggestions like Janay DeLoach (long jumper), Jordan
Clarke (shot putter), Cory Davis (snowmachiner), Autumn Ridley (AK Native games),
Clint Helander (alpine climber), Spencer Woods (wrestler), Ryan Stassel (snowboarder),
Talon Lindquist (swimmer), Trevor Dunbar (runner), Zoe Hickel (hockey) and others.
We'll be making a commemorative "Athletes of the Decade" poster and will add 2 men
and 2 women from the write-in votes to our original group of names. Shoot us an

What a decade! It was fun to remember and celebrate some of Alaska's brightest stars.

Anchorage's Colter Lasher scored a season-high 26 points in just 28 minutes as the
No. 7 Bayer Giants beat No. 10 Tuebingen 88-83 in Germany's A League.
He added a season-high 11 rebounds to complete his first double-double in 16 games.
Lasher, of Dimond High fame, drained 10-of-16 field goals, including 5-of-9 from
3-point range.
The former Houston Baptist star leads Bayer in scoring at 14.7 points per game.
He also leads the team with 24 3s.

Swayman leads NCAA in saves, games and minutes with Maine [[link removed]]

Anchorage's Jeremy Swayman became the first NCAA D1 goalie to reach 700 saves on
the season after he made 32 stops for the University of Maine hockey team in a
3-2 win over Nebraska-Omaha.
The junior netminder improved to 10-8-4 on the season, with his 22 appearances ranking
No. 1 in the country.
Swayman also ranks No. 1 nationally in minutes (1,329) and saves (726).
He owns 39 career wins, which ranks No. 1 among active Alaskans.
Swayman is a 2017 fourth-round draft pick of the Boston Bruins.
