I’m proud to announce that Animal Charity Evaluators (ACE) has once again named us a Top Charity for 2022!

ACE connects compassionate people to extremely effective organizations that work to reduce the suffering of animals. We’re deeply honored to receive this distinction for the ninth year in a row—and to be the only organization to do so in ACE’s history.

This award is a recognition that, thanks to the tireless efforts of supporters like you, our movement has managed to get results. Real results, with real consequences for farmed animals.

Together, we’ve applied focused, sustained pressure to major corporations to get them to make simple changes with huge impact. 

We’ve persuaded over 500 companies globally to commit to adopting our higher welfare standards for chickens raised for meat.

We’ve helped move 35% of the nation’s egg-laying flock out of the most extreme form of confinement on factory farms today. 

We’ve pushed hundreds upon hundreds of companies to do better for hens through our Open Wing Alliance—and of the 2,300 companies around the world that promised to spare animals from cruelty, nearly half have already fulfilled those promises.

Why chickens? Why cages?

We believe in focusing our collective energy where it will do the most good. Chickens represent 90% of all land animals raised for food, so any interventions we make for chickens have the greatest potential impact. And restrictive “battery cages”—small wire cages used to confine laying hens—are one of the worst sources of suffering for chickens. So convincing corporations to eliminate battery cages is one of the most impactful things we can do.

At the end of the day, corporations are responsible for these animals—and they have the power to change animals’ lives, on a massive scale. And when a company promises to do better for animals, we know we’re only halfway there. We track companies’ progress, and we push them to follow through—for the animals.
