Here are this week's picks to inform and support your activism:

Standing with LGBTQ+ people in Colorado: [link removed] On Nov. 19, five people were killed and many more injured in a mass shooting at an LGBTQ+ club in Colorado Springs. Our hearts go out to the victims and survivors, their families, and the LGBTQ+ community in Colorado during this time. We yearn for a world where everyone can express their identity and live in safety.

Tell Congress: Extend the child tax credit and EITC now: [link removed] Last year, the expanded child tax credit and Earned Income Tax Credit slashed child poverty in the United States. Shamefully, lawmakers failed to expand the credit for 2022. As Congress considers year-end legislation, it must restore this vital benefit—instead of extending tax breaks for corporations. Contact Congress today.

Register for our next No Way to Treat a Child campaign webinar (Nov. 29, 12 p.m. ET / 9 a.m. PT): [link removed] AFSC’s campaign partner, Defense for Children International – Palestine, has compiled extensive documentation on how Israeli forces have killed, injured, and detained Palestinian children this year. In this webinar, we’ll examine this critical information. We’ll also discuss upcoming plans for advocacy after the recent U.S. elections.

History: The birth of the Poor People’s Campaign: [link removed] In November 1967, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Southern Christian Leadership Conference decided to launch the Poor People’s Campaign. Although Dr. King would not live to see this historic event, his vision mobilized tens of thousands to Washington, D.C. to demand economic justice. Read about AFSC’s history with the Poor People’s Campaign.
