With the global economy still hammered by the effects of the plague and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Republicans were salivating at their chances to win big and take control of both houses this year. In the gloomy lead-up, it seemed like they might have been right. The groundswell of support that rose from the conservative destruction of Roe v. Wade seemed to fade from the conversation of top priorities, despite nothing changing for the better.

But we democrats prevailed. The democratic party has maintained control of the Senate, and in the Georgia run-off election even has the chance to pick up one more seat and thus let Kamala Harris step away from her constant tie-breaker vote. This last race is more important than it might seem, as with 51 senators Democrats would actually control the senate rather than have a voting majority. This would be important for committee controls.

Here in California, we had our own victories. The Supreme Court’s unconscionable decision on Roe v. Wade empowered Californians to stand up, fight back, and vote to enshrine abortion and contraception into our state constitution resulting in the passing of Proposition 1 with 65.7% of the vote! California Democrats hold all constitutional statewide offices.

However, we do still have to look to a horizon filled with increased republican power. With Republicans in charge of the House, expect to have another government shutdown over the budget and so many fights over the debt ceiling you will want to go deaf. Expect to hear so much about Hunter Biden’s laptop that you might begin to forget the republicans’ last president attempted to extort Ukraine’s President Zelensky by withoulding military improvement funds over the demand that Zelensky manufacturer claims against Joe Biden’s son. Expect constant calls to impeach President Biden over absolutely anything to lessen the mental significance of Trump’s two impeachments.

We at the Fresno County Democratic Party are reaching out to our local Dem Voters to invite you to participate in a quick survey that will help communicate the issues that are most present and pressing to you and your community. Please follow the link below Thank you for your participation.

Raphael Warnock is still fighting as the Georgia senate election has continued on to a run-off.

The GOP has already poured millions into Georgia to try to flip this seat. However, thousands of folks have stepped up to fuel Warnock’s grassroots campaign. The powerful, pro-democracy message is spreading across the Peach State -- and thanks to their team, we can keep Georgia blue and expand our Senate majority.

The campaign is soliciting donations and volunteers from across the country.

Nancy Pelosi, at age 82, has announced that she is stepping away from her long leadership of democrats as Speaker in the House of Representatives. She will continue to represent her California district, centered on San Francisco, which she has been elected to for the past 35 years.

She is the only woman to ever lead one of the American houses of congress. She has led the democratic party in the House for 19 years. She has been called by both her allies and her adversaries as one of the most powerful Speakers in American history. She managed to shepard mammoth compromise bills through contentious congresses, and so passed the ACA and Biden’s Infrastructure Bill.

This decision to step down from her position of power comes after the ambivalent results of the 2022 midterm, and the bloody attack on her husband in their home by a would be assassin targeting Nancy Pelosi. After conservative brutes targeted her in the failed January 6th putsch on the capital, it is understandable that she would feel the desire to flee out of the center spotlight. However, Pelosi actually said that the devastating home invasion almost made her stay on the Speaker job, presumably out of pure righteous fury. No one has ever accused her of being meek.

Pelosi has been a giant of California’s politics for decades and we must stand in recognition of all she has accomplished.

CARA 20th Anniversary Year Kickoff

CARA has been super busy organizing, advocating and engaging seniors and people with disabilities on our key issues. This past year we successfully sponsored our Senior Vote 2022 effort, where we recruited over 200 Senior Ambassadors to communicate with over 25,000 senior voters in 5 target districts, as well as sponsoring 9 Senior Vote Forums. Four of the five Congressional races we targeted successfully elected a candidate who supports our issues, and 3 of the 4 State ballot measures CARA endorsed passed.

However, we have missed seeing you in person. We are moving towards more in-person meetings and events in 2023 (hopefully) and the timing could not be better. Because in 2023, we want to celebrate CARA’s 20th anniversary! With your support, CARA can make 2023 the most successful year in our 20-year history.

CARA are kicking off our 20th Anniversary Year next week on November 29th, the national day of online giving. Make a donation ([link removed]) to help us start 2023 in the black.

Close races will reveal that your ALWAYS MATTERS, no matter what district you find yourself in.

At 95% reporting, in one of the final House races to be decided John Duarte has 63,539 votes to Adam Grey’s 62,674 votes, for a difference of only 861 votes. That is an incredibly tiny lead! It could still be worth it toCheck Your Ballot ([link removed]) to make sure your vote was counted, and to encourage everyone you know to do the same.

A bit to the south in our Valley, David Valadeo won over Rudy Salas by only about 4,000 votes. That is the kind of margin that can be the difference of a handful of active local participants in the election process. On the scale of most Get Out the Vote Campaigns that is a feather’s weight.
