Dear Law Professionals,
Happy New Year! We'd like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who supported our many successful efforts in 2019. Our law professional members donated thousands of pro bono hours, signed critical action alerts, served on animal law bar sections and committees, raised awareness for pressing animal issues, organized fundraisers, wrote letters to the editor, and much more. Now let's accomplish even more in 2020!
Here are a few opportunities you can explore to help start the new year off right.
Using Local Legislation to Protect Animals Webinar TOMORROW!
Learn how wild animals are exploited in circuses and traveling shows, and how you can help! The first part of this webinar focuses on the cruelty and safety issues surrounding the use of wild animals in live performances, as well as a round-up of existing state and local laws already prohibiting these inhumane shows. During the second half of the webinar, attendees will learn how to pass a local law prohibiting the use of wild animals in circuses in their own city or county. Animal Legal Defense Fund Campaigns Manager Elizabeth Holtz will walk you through the steps to passing a ban, as well as share tips that can be applied to any local legislative campaign.
The Animal Legal Defense Fund is Hiring a Staff Attorney
The staff attorney will focus exclusively on litigation that advances the interests of farmed animals in industrial agriculture. This growing docket within our Litigation Program utilizes environmental law, administrative law, and novel legal theories at the state and federal levels to challenge the practices that enable factory farm operators to exploit animals, the environment, and rural communities.
