Dear Friends,
The journalist Îsam Ebdella lost his life in one of the Turkish airstrikes in Syrian Kurdistan on 20 November. This tragedy came just a week after another journalist, Atef Al Saidi, was killed in southern Syria. Reporters Without Borders (RSF) points out that news coverage is essential in times of armed conflict and journalists should not be targeted.
Aged 39, Îsam Abdallah was a reporter for the Hawar News Agency (ANHA) and had been covering Syrian Kurdistan since 2013. He was killed while interviewing residents in a city that had been the target of an initial airstrike a few hours before.
He was the third journalist to be killed this year in Syria as a result of the war. This is unacceptable. Journalists are at the front line of this conflict involving many different actors, including Turkey. Our access to information on the ground depends on them and they should be protected at all costs.
Help the journalists who are paying with their lives in the battle to provide freely reported and independent coverage in regions at war.
