Sinn Fein is not a normal political party. They don’t believe they are bound by the same rules and standards that they demand of everyone else.

They demand the truth from the police and army about the Troubles but not the IRA. We all remember the covid regulations during the pandemic. It was one rule for us and another rule for Michelle O’Neill. Of course, we are all lectured by Sinn Fein spokespersons about respect whilst Sinn Fein blocked the most basic events to mark the centenary of Northern Ireland.

This week however, the Special Criminal Court in Dublin heard incredible claims about Sinn Fein which bring new levels of concern to how Sinn Fein operates.

The secret police recordings played to the Court included allegations that Sinn Fein used the Hutch criminal gang to get money and votes.

Unfortunately, you may not have heard details about this seismic trial and the allegations arising from it because BBC Northern Ireland decided not to send a reporter to cover the case.

Many unionists feel more and more marginalised by BBC NI editorial decisions. BBC NI can’t do live coverage of the Twelfth and struggled to cover more than one hundred thousand people attending the centenary parade and now with a major scandal involving Sinn Fein, they struggle to inform their listeners and viewers. Our East Londonderry MP Gregory Campbell has written to the BBC NI management to seek answers.

Such is the seriousness of these courtroom allegations about republicans, I have requested a meeting with the Chief Constable where we will seek further information to inform our next steps.

Let’s be in no doubt, given the gravity of the allegations about Sinn Fein being in cahoots with major international crime gangs, this matter cannot be swept under the carpet.

We all have a right to know whether gangland money is being used to influence politics and there must be full transparency.

We will not be deflected from pursuing this but will always seek to shine a light on the murky underbelly of republicanism.
