You might not know it from some of the opinions you hear from that relative at Thanksgiving, but the truth is that most Jewish Americans share pretty similar views when it comes to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Whatever our differences -- and there are plenty of topics we disagree on! -- the vast majority want to see Israel thrive as a safe, democratic homeland for the Jewish people. A proud beacon for human rights and for our Jewish values.
We want the Israeli-Palestinian conflict peacefully resolved. We want an end to terror attacks and rockets. An end to settlement expansion, home demolitions and the daily injustices of occupation. We know both Israelis and Palestinians deserve self-determination, and that both Israeli and Palestinian families deserve to live with equality, peace and freedom.
But powerful forces on the Israeli right -- and their supporters in the United States -- see things differently.
Benjamin Netanyahu, his extreme right-wing partners and the settlement movement are increasingly open about their goal of building and bulldozing their way to permanent, undemocratic control of the West Bank. It’s a plan for permanent occupation. An endless cycle of conflict and injustice. A future with no hope for peace and, ultimately, without liberal democracy.
They and their American backers will do almost anything to get their way, and to silence the voice of our pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy majority.
But together, we know that being true to Israel’s founding values means championing equality, justice and democracy. And we know that if we stand as one, we’ll be a transformative political force.

The majority of Jews around the world support a safe, just and democratic Israel. The majority of us know that the far-right’s destructive policies bring nothing but more hate, suffering and fear. And we’ll do all we can to stand up to them.
That’s what it means to be pro-Israel, pro-democracy and pro-peace, and that’s the vision we’re working for in Washington and across the country.
