Dear John,
As a young child growing up in San
Francisco, I remember the excitement and anticipation of Thanksgiving
Day. My grandmother always
made sure that we understood that nothing was a given, and that
gratitude and grace could bring our friends and family together in
ways that would bring out the best in all of us.
This past week, as part of our annual Turkey Giveaway, we
handed out 7,000 turkeys to families throughout the City. Thanksgiving is more than just a date on
the calendar - we must renew
our commitment to support those who are most in need and celebrate our
diverse communities.
And I have A LOT to be thankful for
this Thanksgiving. I’m thankful
to San Francisco voters for putting the City’s most pressing needs
first by electing incredible candidates to serve. I’m thankful for our
diverse neighborhoods and small
businesses who have
persevered as we continue to recover from the pandemic. I’m thankful
for our City workers and community
partners who work day in and
day out - pandemic or not - to protect us all. And most of
all, I am thankful for YOU, for standing by our
City.
For me, Thanksgiving is a time for
reflection. And this I know to be true: San Franciscans are unified in our
resilience to overcome any obstacle we face. As you gather with friends, family, and
loved ones to celebrate Thanksgiving, I want you to
know how grateful I am for your support. Let’s continue to make San Francisco the
best it can be.
I wouldn’t be able to do this
work without you – I know our City’s best days are ahead of
us.
Sincerely,
Mayor London Breed
