As is customary on Thanksgiving, I wanted to take a moment to let you know what I’m thankful for as we head into the winter holidays.
I’m thankful that voters have dealt a massive blow to MAGA extremism.
I’m thankful that the wolf at the doorstep of democracy has been kept at bay for now.
I’m thankful that, while we will lose our majority in the House, Republicans came nowhere near the blowout they were expecting, as voters rallied around our democracy.
I’m thankful to have an administration leading the charge on good policy, and to once again have a President who listens to and respects the ideas of others.
I’m thankful for the work we accomplished in the 117th Congress.
I’m thankful that we passed the American Rescue Plan, getting shots into arms, people back to work, businesses out of the red, and kids back in school.
I’m thankful for the first real gun safety reform in three decades being signed into law, though there’s more to do.
I’m thankful that we delivered on infrastructure. Shovels are in the ground, work is underway, and Americans are building our path to the future.
I’m thankful that the CHIPS & Science Act will bring semiconductor manufacturing back to the U.S. and in a way that strengthens and diversifies our workforce.
I’m thankful that under the Inflation Reduction Act, insulin costs and out-of-pocket expenses will be capped for seniors on Medicare.
I’m thankful that we’re making the largest ever investment in a clean energy future.
I’m thankful that we have a chance to increase our Senate majority and take full control of the committees and procedures that have been hampered by Republicans.
I’m thankful that with another Democrat in the Senate, we might be able to tackle fundamental issues like voting rights and safeguarding our democracy.
I’m thankful that the fate of the Senate now rests with the people of Georgia, because I know their drive, their tenacity, and their soul. Victory won’t be easy, but we’ve shown we can do it.
Last, but not least, I’m thankful for all of you — for your continued trust in me and for the positive impact that we’re having in people’s lives.
I wish you all a peaceful Thanksgiving. Be safe, and enjoy the holiday with your family and friends.
Many thanks for everything,
Hank Johnson (he/him)
