On Behalf of GOA, We Want to Wish You a Happy Thanksgiving!
Gun Owners Have a Lot to Be Thankful For
“My fellow Americans, let us keep this Thanksgiving Day sacred. Let us thank God for the bounty and goodness of our nation. And as a measure of our gratitude, let us rededicate ourselves to the preservation of this: the land of the free and the home of the brave.”
-- Ronald Reagan, Thanksgiving Address (1985)
Dear John,
Along with the entire team here at Gun Owners of America, I want to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving.
There has been a lot to be grateful for this year. Although there was a major gun control bill that did become law, gun owners won a bigger victory at the Supreme Court with the Bruen decision.
While not perfect, because of Bruen, lawmakers and judges must now consider the “text, history and tradition” of the Second Amendment when considering legislation.
And as a result, the floodgates for lawsuits have never been open so wide—and it is tremendously helping GOA’s legal work around the nation.
Before Bruen, all kinds of gun control—including gun bans, magazine bans, ridiculous carry restrictions, and other unconstitutional infringements—were, to a large degree, difficult to overturn in the federal courts.
But now, we have the Bruen decision when we go to court to challenge gun control. And this is worth celebrating!
Plus, so is the fact that with the help of GOA members and activists, we were able to defeat a plethora of gun control legislation in Congress this past year, including the following:
• A ban on commonly-owned semi-auto rifles and handguns
• A backdoor semi-auto ban via a legislative “bump stock” ban
• Universal Background Registration Checks
• Allowing the FBI to delay gun purchases for up to 10 days
• Federal Gun Confiscation Orders
• Military Court Gun Confiscation Orders
• Confirming radical anti-gun lobbyist David Chipman to ATF Director
• Totally banning firearm ownership for 18-20 year old adults
• An active shooter alert system designed to cause maximum anti-gun hysteria
• An anti-gun expansion of penalties for so-called “straw purchases”
• A “ghost gun” ban that criminalized cleaning and re-assembling your own firearm
• A ban on 16+ round magazines
• Unconstitutional D.C. Statehood to permanently elect two anti-gun Senators
• The destruction of the filibuster
• Supreme Court packing
Our forefathers would be proud of our efforts to continue waging the fight for freedom that they started.
A lot of people think the American Revolution was only fought over taxes. But they forget the inciting moment of the Revolution was because of an attempted gun ban by the British.
When the tyrants came for the guns held in Concord, they were met by no-compromise Patriots, and the “shot heard around the world” was fired on the Lexington grounds.
Our government has changed a lot since 1776, but our God-given rights have not. And we will continue to fight to preserve them for the generations that follow us.
So as President Ronald Reagan encouraged us to do, let’s show our gratitude to God on this Thanksgiving Day—for our family, freedoms, and country.
And please enjoy a great holiday with your family and friends.
In Liberty,
Erich Pratt
