Dear John,
In 1863, after the Battle at Gettysburg, President Abraham Lincoln set out to unite the country and give thanks, designating the last Thursday in November as a national holiday.
And so, every year we come together as a state and nation to give thanks. As we gather with our family, friends and neighbors this Thanksgiving, we reflect on the countless blessings God has given us.
We have much to be thankful for in this state where people from around the country and the world come in search of new opportunities and challenges. We’re grateful to live in a land of endless possibilities.
Thank you to the men and women of the armed forces serving on the frontlines to protect our liberty and freedom. Our gratitude extends to the everyday heroes – first responders, correctional officers, health care professionals, public safety personnel and volunteers to help keep our communities safe and lend a helping hand to neighbors.
Arizona is the greatest place to live, work and get an education – I’m grateful to have served this state and its people as its governor.
Today, and every day, I’m thankful for my family and the honor to have served the great state of Arizona and its people as their governor.
In his Thanksgiving Proclamation 159 years ago, President Lincoln invited his fellow Americans to observe "a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens."
With those enduring words in mind, my sincere wish is that every Arizonan have a happy, healthy and safe Thanksgiving. God Bless.
Doug Ducey
