Dear Friends,

Serving our comunidades, familias, vecinos, niños, y gente in Congress is the honor of my life.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank everyone who put their trust in my role to be a voice for New Mexico. I’m in Congress for you. I hope you have a joyful and safe thanksgiving with your family or chosen family!

Around the District

This Veterans Day, I had the honor of joining the Española community in celebrating the courageous individuals who have served our country. I know that thanking our veterans is not enough. We have a solemn obligation to provide veterans with the health care, education, housing, and honorable services they have earned.

Whether it’s through student debt relief, the expanded Child Tax Credit, or the Inflation Reduction Act, I’m in Congress to lower costs for families. I was happy to join Senator Luján and Representative Stansbury earlier this month to discuss all the ways we are delivering for New Mexicans in Congress.

Working for New Mexico

It was a pleasure to join the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s 2022 Tech Summit for a discussion on digital equity. Whether it’s with broadband access or empowering the next generation of coders, equity needs to be at the forefront of our digital investments.

Thanks to our delegation letter, USDA extended the application deadline for their Emergency Conservation and Restoration Programs to January 9th, 2023.

This program offers technical and financial assistance to help local communities relieve imminent threats to life and property caused by floods, fires, windstorms, and other natural disasters that impair a watershed.

USDA will cover 100 percent of the cost-share. Find your local USDA Center HERE or call (505) 761-4900.

Legislative Corner

Some of the bills I recently voted for, and the House passed, include:

  • The Speak Out Act to protect victims of workplace sexual harassment. It will end the use of forced nondisclosure agreements that silence survivors.
  • The FIRE Act to improve FEMA’s response to wildfires and authorize tribes to access Emergency Operation Center grants.
  • The Disaster Resiliency Planning Act to make sure that the federal government takes preventative measures to alleviate physical and financial damages caused by natural disasters.
