House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy — who is on track to be Speaker of the House next year — just announced that he plans to keep his promise to remove me from the Foreign Affairs Committee.

McCarthy and House Republicans will do anything to distract from reality, which is that they only narrowly won back the House when historical trends were in their favor, and they can’t offer any policies that would actually help their constituents.

Instead of working to create a more equitable, just country, they are appealing to the most radical members of their base — promising to kick me and other Democrats off our committees, launch partisan investigations, gut popular and important policies like the Affordable Care Act and the Inflation Reduction Act, and cut even more taxes to benefit corporations and the ultra-wealthy at the expense of the working class.

That’s all compounded by the fact that McCarthy continues to enable his members’ hatred and corruption, including Islamophobic, sexist attacks against me and continued support for Donald Trump after he incited an attempted coup on the Capitol.

I refuse to let Republicans silence me or get in the way of our movement’s work for progress. But there’s power in numbers, and I need your support in this fight. Will you help me stand up to the GOP and grow our progressive coalition by rushing in a donation now?

Nothing terrifies Kevin McCarthy and his far-right allies in the House more than a Black, Muslim, progressive refugee who is relentless in the fight to build a more equitable, peaceful country and world.

House Republicans are hyper-focused on stopping our movement’s work — from moving the needle on progressive issues like Medicare for All and universal school meals, to passing transformative legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act, to standing alongside union workers on the picket lines to demand better workplaces.

I won’t let their bad-faith attacks prevent me from following through with what I was re-elected to do — deliver bold, progressive change, no matter what. But they won’t let up without a fight, and I’m counting on you to stand with me and build our movement.
