I marched this weekend with hundreds of people in Detroit, joining many thousands across the country. We all agree: We cannot stay silent as this lawless President recklessly moves us closer to yet another unnecessary war that puts innocent lives at risk at home and across the globe.

As Congress returns to Washington, we must say no to an endless war.

Since virtually his first day in office, Donald Trump has escalated tensions in the Middle East―pulling out of the hard-won Iran nuclear deal just to spite Barack Obama; appointing war hawks to his cabinet; banning people from majority-Muslim countries from entering the U.S.; and now, without taking the necessary step of getting congressional approval, he authorized a drone strike to kill an Iranian leader that sets us on the path to another U.S. war in the region.

He then threatened war crimes on Twitter, saying he'd bomb 52 Iranian cultural sites, endangering civilians. All this without congressional authorization―another impeachable offense.

On top of all this, Donald Trump has no exit strategy. He even told a reporter that he doesn't need one.

Yet again he's demonstrating that he doesn't think black and brown people, or Muslims, are human. He would deploy U.S. service members abroad and traumatize another generation of children and families all for hopes that this could aid his re-election, distract from impeachment, and secure access to oil.

In addition, his administration is already threatening Iranian-Americans, including more than 60 people returning this weekend from Vancouver, Canada. When crossing back over the border, this group of primarily American citizens was detained by Customs & Border Patrol (CBP), who confiscated people's passports while asking them about their political views and other invasive questions. A CBP staffer reported that they were following a national order from the Department of Homeland Security to report and detain anyone potentially suspicious with Iranian heritage.

None of this racist, horrifying behavior is about American safety.

Trump's actions have very real, deadly consequences―and it's up to Congress to block any funding or approval for war.

Together, it is up to us to speak out before Donald Trump’s reckless, dictator-like actions lead us once again to an endless war. This is a democracy, and the American people do not want war.
