As we enter into this season of gratitude and giving, we are filled with appreciation for all of you and hope for what the future holds. Unfortunately, once again, this season is marred by the recent violence in Colorado. This on the heels of other incidents of hate - anti-asian, anti-black, anti-semetic, anti-trans… the violence continues. We stand firmly against these acts and continue to work toward a more peaceful world. We have to do better as a country and as a culture and embrace each other with kindness.

At Peace Over Violence, our services remain constant and critical. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be wrapping up our 50th anniversary year and launching our year end campaign. You’ll be hearing more about our impact and the continued demand for the work that we do in the communities of Los Angeles and beyond. We hope you consider joining with us and helping us to create a future without violence.

Ana Santamaria
------------------------------------------------------------
Senior Peer Counselor, Peace Over Violence

Ana Santamaria is celebrating her 24 year anniversary working at Peace Over Violence. Congratulations, Ana!

Ana was born in El Salvador and has dedicated her life to the movement against violence. She began working for POV in 1998, and remains a committed member of our Intervention team. She has helped to elevate our Spanish speaking programs and services and is a leader in the community. Ana is a true advocate, working to empower survivors of sexual and domestic violence and their families every day. She works one on one with survivors, guiding them on their healing journeys, leads and facilitates support groups, and represents POV regularly in the media. Over the last 24 years, Ana has compassionately helped countless individuals as they process and heal through the trauma of violence.

Ana’s enthusiasm for life is palpable. She is the ultimate positivist, always smiling and bringing joy to everyone she meets. In her free time, she loves to paint and spend time with her family.

On her 24th anniversary, Ana said: “My philosophy is: every day is my first day and I will present myself with the best attitude to all! I will never give up fighting against violence.”

** Dia De Los Muertos Event
------------------------------------------------------------
Last month POV hosted our annual Dia De Los Muertos celebration! Back in person for the first time in a few years, we were so excited to gather together in community in our new Metro Headquarters. Staff decorated our offices from top to bottom, including creating several ofrendas to remember those we have lost. We opened up for community partner tours and then held activities and a program later in the evening. Key highlights from the event include: Xipe Totec Aztec Dancers opening the program; Tasha Mitchell, a domestic violence survivor and member of POV’s Voices Over Violence survivors speakers bureau sharing her story of healing and resilience; activities like face painting, mask making, cookie decorating, vase making and sugar skull painting, arts & crafts, and games; and a general feeling of community togetherness. This was such a special event and we thank all who attended and who participated to bring this gathering back in full force.
