I wish I had never said that!

Hi John,
Have you responded to a social media post with hostility and then later regretted it?
Or fired off an angry email and wished you could take it back?
I’ve been there. Count me among the millions of people who have spoken (or typed) words that are hurtful and unloving.
I know better. We all know better. Our parents taught us to think before we speak.
So, why don’t we?
I think our pent-up emotions often come from a place of fear and anxiety in our souls. We get frustrated or hurt and we open our mouths without even thinking.
There’s a lot of that in our world today. Civility and graciousness seem to be in short supply.
I think we need to find out more about ourselves and uncover why we consciously and subconsciously get into these communication disasters.
At Focus on the Family, we want to help you and your family thrive — especially in how you communicate with each other, not to mention the people you work with, friends, neighbors, and the rest of the world.
That’s why we created a series of 7 short videos (each is 2-6 minutes in length) called Avoiding Words That Hurt. This FREE video series is designed to help you think about what’s happening inside you, what you’re feeling, and how it affects your interactions with other people.
Along the way, you’ll learn the four principles of grace-filled communication from my friend and relationship expert Dr. Emerson Eggerichs. Plus, you’ll discover how to think wisely before you speak.
After each short video, we have hand-picked some of our most helpful articles, downloads, and media to help you take your learning a step further. These resources are chock-full of useful information!
Here are the topics of this series:
Video #1: Why Do We Speak Before We Think?
Video #2: Tweets and Consequences
Video #3: The Opportunity to Be a Skilled Communicator
Video #4: Principle 1 — Are My Words True?
Video #5: Principle 2 — Are My Words Kind?
Video #6: Principle 3 — Are My Words Necessary?
Video #7: Principle 4 — Are My Words Clear?
How you conduct yourself is so important to your character. People remember not just what you say, but how you say it.
