The Center’s RiseOut advocacy initiative is a powerful force for gathering and mobilizing LGBTQ+ New Yorkers—and so much of our impact is thanks to advocates like you.

Our volunteer group, known as the RiseOut Action Team, jumped into high gear for the midterm elections. We set out to reach thousands of LGBTQ+ voters, and to drum up support for important ballot initiatives in New York City. Together, we:

⇨ Helped to pass three proposals from NYC’s Racial Justice Commission

⇨ Texted over 200,000 New Yorkers with registration and voting info

⇨ Mailed 500 handwritten postcards to raise awareness of issues at stake in this election

⇨ Joined forces with orgs like the NEW Pride Agenda in talking to voters face-to-face about the importance of midterm elections

Elections like these have given us a critical chance to decide who is in power in our government. But don’t forget the next step to drive progress on LGBTQ+ rights—ensuring that the lawmakers we just elected actually usher in change for the most marginalized sections of our communities. Become a volunteer today, and join us as we hold our newly-elected leaders to account.

Responding to the violence in Colorado

[link removed]

We share in the grief and anger that our nationwide LGBTQ+ community is feeling after the deadly mass shooting that occurred in Colorado on Saturday, November 19, just before Trans Day of Remembrance. The victims of the shooting, their families and loved ones, and the LGBTQ+ communities of Colorado remain close in our hearts.

This tragedy comes during a year of growing threats against queer and trans people, from interpersonal attacks to anti-trans & anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and legislation that question our very right to exist. We mourn with our community, and we will keep fighting for our safety and wellbeing.
