I’ll keep this quick, John. I know folks have a tendency to tune out after a big election. But here’s why that’s a bad idea:
- The 2022 elections aren’t even over (Raphael Warnock’s runoff election is on December 6)
- What happens in the next few months could determine whether Donald Trump – or someone like Ron DeSantis – is the GOP frontrunner in 2024
- And 2023 will bring more elections, including the critical state supreme court election in Wisconsin.

Let’s recap: Wisconsin just reelected a Democratic governor, Tony Evers, by 3.5 points. However, due to extreme gerrymandering, Republicans will control 67% of seats in the state Senate and 64% in state Assembly next year. Outrageous!
BUT: According to Esquire, “The best chance that Wisconsin has to [undo its gerrymanders] comes next April, when an election could bring a Democratic majority to the state supreme court.” So you can see why it’s so important that states like Wisconsin elect fair-minded justices!
The NDRC is committed to helping elect officials who will defend fair maps and a strong democracy, but we can’t do it without you. Please don’t tune out, John. Chip in now to help us do our work!
