Dear supporter,

2019 – what a year! Brexit *almost* got done and we made it through *another* general election. It was also the TPA’s 15th anniversary.

We have been fighting for the things we believe in – reforming taxes and public services, cutting wasteful spending and giving a voice to ordinary British taxpayers – since 2004. We've reached some incredibly important milestones and victories along the way and we are grateful so many of you have been there with us.

I joined the TPA in 2008 and I’ve watched us grow from strength to strength each year. From achieving cuts to the taxpayer funding of trade union activity in 2012, to being the first to push stamp duty to the top of the agenda in 2013, to running local campaigns against council tax rises and wasteful spending across the country, I’m immensely proud of all that we’ve achieved.

And we need you again as we enter the 2020s.

If you haven’t yet had a look, do have a flick through our annual review <[link removed]>, which gives you the best overview of what we got up to in 2019. You might also like to have a look through a selection of our many policy victories here <[link removed]> or read all about our first 15 years here <[link removed]>.

But enough looking backwards. We are excited about the opportunities a new year and decade will bring for the TPA, particularly a new government with a definitive majority. You may have heard that they want to spend more money. We will redouble our efforts in 2020 to be the UK's waste watchdog and ensure that they deliver on growth-enhancing policies that put taxpayers first. On tax, the government looks likely to raise the national insurance threshold to the same level as income tax, as we proposed in our Single Income Tax report in 2012. We will keep up the pressure for tax cuts elsewhere too.

Our campaign matters for a new opposition, too – it's important that a credible voice emerges that is comfortable with markets and patriotism and is respectful of taxpayers. Governments of all stripes must be held to account.

Your support is a critical part of our work, so we hope you can make a donation today to help us start this new decade off on the right foot.

As always, thank you for your continued support. We can’t do it without you.

Best wishes,

Sara Rainwater
