Critics to Fauci: Hit the Road and Don’t Come Back

Fauci’s final briefing. Spencer Brown: During Tuesday’s White House press briefing, Karine Jean-Pierre brought not only cookies to share with the press corps but also Dr. Fauci, who she praised as “a source of information and facts” before offering a eulogy-sounding recap of his career to introduce him for what Jean-Pierre said was his “last run at the podium” (Townhall). Fox News: During questions after the White House coronavirus response team updated reporters on the administration’s vaccine efforts, Daily Caller White House correspondent Diana Glebova attempted to ask a question regarding what Fauci has done to investigate the origins of COVID-19. But Jean-Pierre shut Glebova down and rebuked her for speaking out of turn (Fox News). Townhall: FAUCI: “My message and my final message, maybe the final message I give you from this podium, is…get your updated COVID-19 shot” (Twitter).

Dennis Prager: “so many people don’t think of God as worthy of thanks and essential to the American vocation”
Dennis Prager: Here is the proclamation of Abraham Lincoln in 1863 for a National Day of Thanksgiving. “The year that is drawing toward its close has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever-watchful providence of Almighty God.” We were founded to be a God-centered nation, my friends, I don’t care if you’re an atheist, agnostic, Wiccan. It doesn’t matter. You still have to tell the truth. And that’s the truth… You hear that? “They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. “I do, therefore, invite my fellow-citizens in every part of the United States … to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a Day of Thanksgiving and Praise” (Daybreak Daily).

San Francisco Elections Commission Director Fired to Meet Racial Quota Levels
Daily Caller: The San Francisco elections commission decided last week to not renew director John Arntz’s contract, not because he failed to fulfill his duties, but because they wanted to hire a minority replacement. The city commission voted to not renew Arntz’s five-year deal and instead will hire an independent recruiter to assess applicants for the position along with Arntz, should he choose to reapply. Arntz, who was hired in 2002, did not receive a new contract because the commission wanted to carry out San Francisco’s “racial equity” plan that aims to maintain a “high level” of racial diversity in every government position (Daily Caller). National Review: Just two years ago, the Elections Commission wrote Arntz a commendation “for his incredible leadership” according to Mission Local. Arntz declined to say whether he has concerns regarding fairness or discrimination as it applies to the commission’s decision (National Review).

Republicans Split Between Trump and DeSantis
Polls regarding the GOP electorate remain mixed. CNBC: Ex-President Donald Trump would defeat Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis by a wide margin in a hypothetical 2024 Republican presidential primary, according to a new poll. Trump received 55% of Republican registered voters’ support, while DeSantis, his potential rival for the White House nomination, received just 25% (CNBC). New York Post: A poll released Monday by Neighborhood Research and Media indicated that 32% of likely caucus-goers would make the 44-year-old Florida governor their first choice. Another 30% said their top pick would be the 76-year-old former president. The result represents a 23-point swing in the poll from June, when Trump led DeSantis by 38% to 17% (New York Post). Brandon Tatum: We should be focused on building our party. We should be focused on building the country, not tearing down other Republicans. But what I will say is that the sentiment and the polling from around the country yields that what Donald Trump did against Ron DeSantis proves to be a huge strike against him (Daybreak Daily).

Iran Begins Enriching Uranium to 60 Percent Purity in Effort to Expand Nuclear Program
Reuters: Iran has begun enriching uranium to 60% purity at its Fordow nuclear plant and plans a vast expansion of its enrichment capacity, the U.N. nuclear watchdog said on Tuesday, detailing the latest acceleration of Iran’s atomic program over Western objections. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was confirming Iranian reports of Tehran’s step, taken in retaliation for the agency’s criticism of Iran in a board of governors resolution last week (Reuters). National Review: A similar enrichment process had already taken place at Iran’s other major nuclear facility of Natanz. Iran has taken an increasingly taken a belligerent stance towards recent efforts to circumscribe the country’s nuclear ambitions. In June, Iran removed IAEA equipment installed as part of the JCPOA agreement to monitor the country’s nuclear program (National Review).

Biden Looks to Extend Student Loan Payment Pause to June 30
Bloomberg: President Joe Biden announced that his administration would extend the pandemic-era pause in student loan repayments through June 30 amid legal challenges to his college debt-forgiveness plan. Payments now set to resume Jan. 1 won’t be required again until 60 days after court challenges to Biden’s loan forgiveness plan are settled. If the litigation is not resolved by June 30, payments will resume 60 days after that, the Education Department said in a statement (Bloomberg). Daily Wire: A number of reports had predicted that the White House would once again extend the freeze, which comes at a price tag of $5 billion per month (Daily Wire).

Supreme Court Mandates Trump Must Submit His Tax Returns, Financial Records to Congress
ABC: The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday denied former President Donald Trump’s request to block an appeals court order that he surrender his tax returns and other financial records to the House Ways and Means Committee. The court offered no explanation for the decision. There was no noted dissent or vote breakdown. It marks the fourth time Trump has lost a high court appeal related to requests for his taxes. The move appears to be the end of the road for Trump in the years-long saga of congressional subpoenas for his tax records in the stated interest of drafting oversight legislation (ABC). Townhall: The Supreme Court’s decision that will allow additional scrutiny of Trump’s tax filings by House Democrats will also likely become a focal point for his opponents in the 2024 presidential election cycle that the 45th president recently kicked off by announcing his intent to return to the Oval Office (Townhall).

Associated Press Fires Reporter Who Wrote Story on Russian Rocket Landing in Poland
Ed Morrissey: Last week, James LaPorta reported for the AP that a Russian missile had struck rural Poland, killing two people. That report got picked up by a number of outlets, and for good reason given that an attack on Poland could provoke NATO’s Article V and force a military response. Despite LaPorta’s sourcing, it became clear fairly quickly that the missile involved wasn’t Russian, but instead a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile that went awry. Poland quickly de-escalated the issue, and hopefully everyone learned a lesson from it. Not least of whom was LaPorta himself, or so it seems (Hot Air). Townhall: The AP report cited one anonymous source, which turned out to be wrong. The news organization fired the reporter who wrote the story, citing a failure to adhere to editorial standards regarding sourcing (Townhall).

Wall Street Journal: The U.S. and its allies are seeking to agree as soon as Wednesday on a level for a price cap on Russian oil, with officials discussing setting it at around $60 a barrel as the group rushes to complete the plan, according to people familiar with the talks. The price cap, which the people said could still be set as high as $70, is at the center of the West’s efforts to sanction Russia for its invasion of Ukraine (Wall Street Journal). CNBC: Russian oil output is expected to fall to 1.4 million barrels a day by next year (CNBC).
