Hi John,
This year we’re celebrating 50 years of Global Justice Now*. If there’s one thing that we’ve learnt in that time, it’s that the kind of big, structural change that we need to really tackle the root causes of poverty and inequality is hard. That’s not because we don’t know what needs to be done, but because those at the top are determined to defend their wealth.

It’s an unequal fight, but one of the things that makes it possible for us to make progress is the fact we can draw on the collective wisdom of millions of people struggling for real change the world over. I’m constantly inspired by the resourcefulness, determination and creativity of social movements and fellow campaigners around the world.

So I’m really pleased to be able to tell you that on Saturday 28 March, we’re holding a special event to mark our 50th anniversary which will bring together global and local allies to share knowledge and experience, and discuss how we make sure global justice is on the agenda in the 2020s.

Speakers will include Shalmali Guttal, executive director of our south and south-east Asian ally Focus on the Global South, and Daniel Chavez, a Uruguayan expert on energy democracy and public services from the Transnational Institute. We’re currently in the process of confirming some other exciting speakers, and the full format of the day, but I’m really looking forward to this one.
