Welcome to Monday, January 6th, hawks and doves...

World War III memes filled social media over the weekend after a U.S. drone strike killed Iran's top general, Qasem Soleimani.

Tehran declared it will no longer abide by any of the restrictions imposed by the 2015 nuclear deal. And Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei - who once described Soleimani as his "living martyr"- has warned the U.S. of "severe revenge" for the assassination.

President Donald Trump - who authorized Friday's drone attack - warned on Saturday that the U.S. was ready to strike 52 sites "important to Iran & the Iranian culture."

A 1954 Hague treaty makes targeting cultural sites a war crime. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo refused to disavow the president's tweet on Sunday morning, but said the U.S. will "behave lawfully."

But Trump later reiterated his threat, telling reporters aboard Air Force One:

“They’re allowed to use roadside bombs and blow up our people. And we’re not allowed to touch their cultural site? It doesn’t work that way.”

Would you support targeting Iranian cultural sites?

Blocking Funding for Military Force Against Iran

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) have called for legislation that "blocks Pentagon funding for any unilateral actions" taken by President Trump "to wage war against Iran without congressional authorization."

From their Friday statement:

“We know that it will ultimately be the children of working-class families who will have to fight and die in a new Middle East conflict—not the children of the billionaire class... The House and Senate should pass our legislation immediately and uphold our constitutional responsibilities. We must invest in the needs of the American people, not spend trillions more on endless wars.”

Would you support funding military force against Iran?

Asking Scotus to Revisit Roe v. Wade

168 GOP representatives and 39 Senators have signed a brief asking the Supreme Court to reconsider the landmark abortion rights case, Roe v. Wade.

SCOTUS plans to review a restrictive Louisiana abortion law that would require doctors at abortion clinics to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals.

In their amicus brief, the lawmakers said the law "illustrates the unworkability of the ‘right to abortion’ found in Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973) and the need for the Court to again take up the issue of whether Roe and [Planned Parenthood v.Casey should be reconsidered and, if appropriate, overruled.”

Do you want the Supreme Court to reconsider Roe v. Wade?
