The Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR) for FY'22 includes updates on NYC revenues & expenses, office occupancy, the state of housing and more.
Dear New Yorkers,
As New York City continues a steady recovery from the economic impacts of COVID-19, my office is committed to providing clear and concise information on the City’s finances. Which is why I’m pleased to share with you the Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR) for Fiscal Year 2022, which began in July of 2021 and ran through June of this year.

First initiated in 2015, this award-winning report offers an accessible overview of the details contained in our 500-page Annual Comprehensive Financial Report ([link removed]) and aims to give New Yorkers insight into the state of the local economy, and how public dollars are being spent.
This year’s report tells the story of our remarkable recovery from the economic impacts of the pandemic and charts the challenges we still face to secure a thriving and equitable economy for all. At this moment of economic uncertainty, it is essential that we continue to invest in the services New Yorkers rely on, while also saving for a potential rainy day. Spending our tax dollars wisely to improve our schools and parks, secure affordable housing, improve our mass transit, and ensure our infrastructure is resilient remain the building blocks of our City’s future.
Among the topics in this year’s PAFR, you’ll find updates about:
* Employment across New York City;
* Office occupancy;
* The state of housing and the cost of rent;
* Travel and hotel occupancy;
* The City of New York’s revenues and expenses.
The Popular Annual Financial Report ([link removed]) would not be possible without the hard work of City employees across every agency who help compile financial information. I am especially grateful to our own office’s Bureau of Accountancy for their work to provide a clear-eyed and comprehensive account of our City’s fiscal responsibility.
Public trust is earned through transparency and accountability, and that is particularly critical when it comes to how taxpayer dollars are being spent.
As we head into the holiday season and the bright prospects that come with the turning of a new calendar year, I am reminded of how thankful I am for the public servants who make the City of New York work. I hope you can celebrate with family and friends, with a little more confidence knowing how your taxpayer dollars are being spent.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Brad
