COP27 has ended – here’s what you helped to achieve and why we can’t stop
pushing.

Dear Global Citizen,




I'm sending this email as the COP27 climate summit comes to a close.



For the past month, Global Citizens have taken action to ensure the conference
made a difference for the planet. Together, we amplified the voices of
activists on the front lines of the climate crisis. We urged governments to
step up for the millions impacted by floods and famines. We tweeted at leaders,
sent emails to negotiators, and carried the demands of Global South communities.



It made a difference. At COP27, countries took the historic step of agreeing
to set up a “loss and damage” fund for communities devastated by climate
disasters.



But the battle for climate justice is far from over. There is a risk that
without further campaigning, this historic breakthrough simply becomes another
broken promise.



COP27 made no progress on the urgent need to phase out fossil fuels, they
even weakened language around the need to invest in renewables. Without urgent
action on the causes of climate change, the loss and damage felt by countries
will be far far worse.



We have also been left waiting on the overdue promise of $100 billion in
climate action to help developing countries. Funding is urgently needed now so
that low-income countries can adapt to climate change and provide clean energy
access to their population.



All of this demonstrates why we can’t back down.



Only when Global Citizens come together for the planet do things change. Let’s
