John,
By now, you’ve heard the news. Trump is running for President again in 2024.
What do I think? Well, we now have another existential threat to democracy on our hands. Clearly Trump won’t admit he was defeated in 2020, so we’re simply going to have to do it again in 2024.
I don’t mean to sound flippant, it’s going to take an incredible amount of work to beat him. But I’ll tell you where the battle actually starts - right here in the halls of Congress.
Will Republicans allow Marjorie Taylor Greene and the extremist caucus to control their party? Will they let election deniers who stoked January 6th take over their party? If they do, I believe we’re in for a very tough next two years as Trump runs for office. Every conspiracy theory and lie that comes out of Trump’s mouth will have a thousand-fold microphone with them in power.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. Representatives like Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger showed us there are still Washington Republicans with a backbone. The question is - are there any Republicans in DC like that left?
I truly hope some of my Republican colleagues step up.
In the meantime, I’m ready to do my part. To speak truth to power and fight back in all the ways I can. We cannot let Trump ever step foot back in the White House again.
