Delia's known the importance of community her entire life.
As a kid, she regularly volunteered at the soup kitchen and food pantry with her mother. She was always asking people experiencing homelessness for their stories.
This passion for her community only grew as she got older, and by the time she was 17, she was working as the "mail lady" at her local church. She regularly helped people apply for jobs, benefits, and whatever else they needed to get back on their feet.
John, Delia is committed to giving our communities a strong voice. But she also knows how important it is to have a dialogue with your community, how important it is that they have a representative who will listen to them.
Delia Ramirez has dedicated her life and career to advocating for working families. She is an outstanding community leader with experience as CEO of community organizations and has created countless alliances in our communities. As the daughter of Guatemalan immigrants, Delia's values are rooted in effort and service to others.
As the founder and former director of the Center for Changing Lives, chair of the executive board for the Latin United Community Housing Association (LUCHA) and the Logan Square Neighborhood Association (LSNA), Delia has worked for solutions to many complex problems such as affordable housing, education, and criminal justice.
In 2018, Delia ran for and was elected to the House of Representatives in Illinois' 4th District. Since then, she has passed legislation expanding affordable housing, Medicaid coverage for seniors regardless of immigration status, and creating a Chicago school board. Now, she is part of the Democratic majority leadership team in the House.
Delia fights every day to break the social obstacles that she and many women face. Her passion is to guide and empower women to achieve leadership opportunities in all sectors.
