Today is a historic day. Recently, you urged your members of Congress to protect farmed animals in the 2023 Farm Bill. And today, your voice was heard on Capitol Hill.  

Just moments ago, Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) announced the Industrial Agriculture Accountability Act (IAA). This federal bill begins to unravel the factory farming industry's cruel and exploitative practices, laying out much-needed changes to our food system.

The IAA would protect animals in the 2023 Farm Bill by addressing practices such as horrific mass on-farm killings, dangerously fast slaughter lines, exposure to extreme heat and cold for hours during transport, and ineffective stunning that leaves many chickens and turkeys fully conscious when they enter tanks of scalding water.

If this bill passes, the impact will be monumental for animals trapped in our current food system.

The IAA is the result of months of tireless work by Mercy For Animals, the ASPCA, and the rest of our powerful coalition. It will be formally introduced next week. Farmed animals will need your voice more than ever to advocate for the bill's passage, so stay tuned for more opportunities to speak up! 

Although it has a long way to go before it becomes law, the IAA brings us to a pivotal moment—and this progress is thanks to animal advocates like you who refuse to stop fighting for change.
