Defend tenants against predatory landlords! |

K3 Holdings is a predatory real estate company with an extensive portfolio of up to 60 rent-stabilized apartment buildings across Los Angeles. They intend to aggressively displace as many long-standing tenants as possible, conduct superficial and often unpermitted construction on the vacant units, and lease the poorly refurbished units at exorbitant rates to gentrifying tenants.
In addition to harassing and forcing out hundreds of predominantly poor and working class families out of their homes, K3 Holdings have now had a tenant organizer and DSA-LA member arrested.
Andrew E is a longtime organizer with the tenants movement, DSA-LA, and labor unions. He is facing criminal charges in retaliation for organizing with his neighbors. Learn more about the situation and how you can help below. |

This year we’re raising funds to rent a DSA-LA organizing space so members can meet, plan, socialize, and organize next year and beyond. The ticket costs for the event are primarily to help us cover event costs. Once again, it’s time for our annual Local Officer elections! Here’s all you need to know.
The nomination period for this election is open now and lasts until December 6th at 11:59 PM. DSA-LA members in good standing can nominate themselves using this form.
Voting begins Monday, December 12th, and will close Monday, December 19th at 11:59 PM.
Winners will be announced on December 20th once all votes are counted!
Elections for Local Subgroups (such as committees) will be conducted in January.

Strike support continues for UAW Academic Workers at UCLA |

48,000 academic workers at the University of California are on strike across the state! The picket lines remain strong and solidarity is pouring in from across the labor movement. DSA-LA will continue to join the striking workers from UAW 2865, UAW 5810, and SRU-UAW at UCLA until they win the contract they deserve. After the first week of ballot processing, the results of Los Angeles’s 2022 election cycle are starting to clarify, and it’s clear that this year’s elections have been massively successful for democratic socialist candidates. Vote: Shall DSA Los Angeles pursue a coalition strategy to recall Kevin de León in Los Angeles City Council District 14? |

DSA-LA members have been discussing and debating the merits of engaging in a recall campaign against sitting Los Angeles City Councilman Kevin de León, who was recorded making racist, anti-Black, anti-renter statements alongside several other councilmembers. If you are a member in good standing, you should have received a ballot to vote on the proposal to pursue a coalition strategy to recall the councilmember.
Read the recommendation statement written by the chapter’s Electoral Committee here . Additionally, DSA Los Angeles chapter members in good standing may submit statements regarding the proposal here. All statements submitted by members before 6:00pm on Tuesday, November 15th, will be included in the ballot sent out to members. |
