India is the latest to join the global trend of liberalizing abortion laws in a recent landmark ruling. In the United States, the Center for Reproductive Rights and nearly 50 organizations seek to expand access to essential medications for miscarriage care and remove legal risks to providers and patients. In the U.S. state of Georgia, abortion care beyond six weeks of pregnancy is allowed to resume thanks to a case brought by the Center and its partners.

With Recent Ruling, India Follows Global Trend of Liberalizing Abortion Laws [[link removed]]
In a landmark ruling, India's Supreme Court has strengthened protections for abortion rights. India will now allow women, regardless of their marital status, to access abortion care up to 24 weeks of gestation in cases of rape, fetal anomaly, or for women with disabilities. "The Indian Court's judgement is a ray of hope in light of the persistent attacks on women's rights around the world," said Sara Malkani, the Center's legal advisor for Asia, in an op-ed published in Dawn [[link removed]] . "We should hope that courts and lawmakers in other countries also move towards an interpretation of fundamental rights guided by realities faced by women and a vision of meaningful equality."

Center Petitions the FDA [[link removed]]
The Center joins nearly 50 organizations to petition the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to increase access to mifepristone for the treatment of miscarriages. The citizen's petition — led by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) — calls on the FDA to eliminate unnecessary legal barriers so more health care providers can offer safe, effective options for miscarriage care.

Georgia Six-Week Abortion Ban Struck Down [[link removed]]
Last week, a Georgia court struck down the state's unconstitutional six-week abortion ban thanks to a lawsuit filed by the Center and its partners. In the court order, the judge struck down the ban as void and without legal basis, since it violated Roe v. Wade when it was enacted in 2019. Health care providers in Georgia will once again be allowed to provide essential abortion and miscarriage care beyond the earliest weeks of pregnancy for the first time in almost four months.
