Contractor killed, Service Members Wounded in Iraq

On December 27, 2019, a U.S. military contractor was killed along with four Service Members were wounded in a rocket attack in Kirkuk, Iraq. Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve, stated that the base is tasked with fighting the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria. The Department of Defense (DOD) stated “Recent KH strikes included a 30-plus rocket attack on an Iraqi base near Kirkuk that resulted in the death of a U.S. citizen and injured four U.S. service members and two members of the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF).
The United States blames the Shiite Muslim militia Kataeb Hezbollah, backed by Iran. This aggressive attack on the base is what prompted President Trump to take pivotal protective action against the attack.

Defensive U.S. Airstrike Kills Top Iraqi General

In response to repeated Kata'ib Hizbollah (KH) attacks on Iraqi bases that host Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) coalition forces, U.S. forces have conducted precision defensive strikes against five KH facilities in Iraq and Syria that will degrade KH's ability to conduct future attacks against OIR coalition forces.
Iranian military leader Qasem Soleimani and five others are killed by a U.S. drone strike at Baghdad's airport. U.S. officials characterize the attack as a "defensive action," saying Soleimani planned attacks on U.S. diplomats and troops. U.S. officials said Soleimani "orchestrated attacks on coalition bases in Iraq during the last several months – including the attack on December 27th – culminating in the death and wounding of additional American and Iraqi personnel."

Congressional Members ask Supreme Court to ‘reconsider’ Roe v. Wade

More than 200 members of Congress are urging the Supreme Court to reconsider — if not overrule — the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, which legalized abortion nationwide. Thirty-nine Republican senators and 168 members of the House of Representatives, almost all of them Republicans, signed a so-called “friend of the court” brief filed on Thursday by the national anti-abortion group Americans United for Life in connection with a challenge to a Louisiana abortion access law due to be heard in March.

Gunman Taken Out by Church Security Team Member

Alarms went off in Jack Wilson’s head the moment a man wearing a fake beard, a wig, a hat and a long coat walked into a Texas church for Sunday services. The gunman opened fire in a church in White Settlement, Tx. And killed two members of the church. Before the gunman reached the front of the sanctuary, he had already been identified as threat and was taken out immediately by a former firearms instructor, Jack Wilson.
Many critics have said the gunman was attempting to copycat what happened two years ago in Sunderland Springs, TX in which 26 members of that church died. In this situation, it exemplifies why our Founding Fathers believed that the citizens Right to Bear Arms should be preserved and protected.

Court Grants Order to Keep Baby on Life Support

A Texas appeals court on Friday agreed to delay a judge’s ruling that would have allowed a hospital to end life-sustaining treatment for an 11-month-old girl who doctors say is in pain and will not get better. The Second Court of Appeals in Fort Worth ordered Cook Children’s Medical Center to not remove Tinslee Lewis from life support until it makes a final ruling in the case. The appeals court did not immediately schedule any hearings in the case.
Doctors at the Fort Worth hospital had planned to remove Tinslee from life support Nov. 10 after invoking Texas’ “10-day rule,” which can be employed when a family disagrees with doctors who say life-sustaining treatment should be stopped. The law stipulates that if the hospital’s ethics committee agrees with doctors, treatment can be withdrawn after 10 days if a new provider can’t be found to take the patient.

Medical Billing Law, Loophole Closed

It bans balance billing in all emergency and some non-emergency care for patients with state-sponsored health plans. Insurers and providers negotiate process for out-of-network care through arbitration. Exception: Patients who need non-emergency care can waive their billing protection if they are told whether any providers are out of network and given a cost estimate. Waivers will only be offered in cases where a patient has a choice between an in-network or out-of-network provider. The patient will have 10 business days to make a decision.

Local Group Defends the Cenotaph

A local group, This is Texas Freedom Force stepped up to defend the cenotaph from being moved, as plans were in place to begin moving it on December 27, 2019. Brandon Burkhalter, president of the organization, stated they were there to “defend the defenders, and if they bring cranes out here. We’re not scared of going to jail. We’ll step in the way of it,” he said. Consequently, the movers never showed up that day.
Moving the cenotaph is part of San Antonio’ City Council’s “Reimagine the Alamo” Plan. It calls for moving the cenotaph 500’ away and off its present Alamo footprint. This decision has become a statewide controversial issue.

Ethics Violation Filed Against George P. Bush

“After the Texas Ethics Commission received a sworn complaint from a local San Antonian Joe Gardner, CPA about the omissions. Bush [said] he looked into the matter, learned of a 2017 opinion that better clarified what business interests must be revealed and took immediate steps to correct his disclosure forms. Under Texas’ lax ethics laws, politicians can omit key information with little fear of fines or legal repercussions. All they have to do is amend them within two weeks of being alerted that something is amiss.”

Scam Alert in Bexar County

Individuals pretending to be from Bexar County offices have been calling residents asking for payment or monies owed to the County. The scammers then ask residents to purchase pre-paid gift cards & provide them with the number and pin number on the back of the card. Although these calls are meant to intimidate & frighten, residents should know that the County does not call to collect fines/penalties or for payments for outstanding warrants. Chairman’s Commentary: Year in Review

As we enter the New Year, I wanted to provide our readers with a list of accomplishments the Party has experienced since I was elected into office in June 2018.

* First female Hispanic, and first female hard right Christian Conservative,
* The first full time Chair, and I put in at a minimum of 60 hours per week.
* We moved
* We secured a storefront, with a REPUBLICAN sign on the marquee, first time in 55 years we have had visibility within the community.
* Revised the RPBC budget and reduced overhead expenditures from $6,000 a month to $1,700 per month, which saved the RPBC $4300 a month in wasteful spending.
* Precinct Chair vacancies: started out with 190 Precinct Chairs, we now have 255 and are continually increasing each month.

Created a Community Outreach Program:

* Appointed the first Chaplain for the RPBC who is Chairman for this program.
* Established a Weekly Prayer Service at headquarters
* Collaborated with St Vincent DePaul and donated Thanksgiving turkey’s & hams to the needy
* Participated with St Vincent DePaul and donated much needed clothing to the poor
* Adopt-A-Park: Lincoln Park on the East side of SA. Six times a year we work with the City of San Antonio cleaning it up, and earned a permanent plaque at the park that says, “Sponsored by the Republican Party of Bexar County.”
* Created the first “Military Appreciation Day Golf Scramble” in which active duty and retired veterans can enjoy a free golfing day and receive prizes.
* Initiated the first RPBC Christmas Party.

* Partnered with Dr. Darrell Crain, Ph.D. with Champion’s Coalition, a local non-profit established to connect with voters countywide.
* Restructured the RPBC monthly newsletter to where it’s actually a newsletter focusing on national, state, and local news.
* First Chair to go into the Bexar County Elections Central Tabulating Room and poll watch Central Counting Elections to validate voter integrity
* RPBC coordinated with the Texas Secretary of State in getting Bexar County Elections Department to allow poll watchers inside the Central Tabulating Room. The current Elections Administrator had never allowed anyone inside the Central Tabulating Room, although the Texas Election Code permits it.
* RPBC worked hard to covered almost every precinct inside and outside with poll watchers and electioneers. None of these things had ever been done before.
* Work together with County Commissioner Tommy Calvert who asked the FBI to monitor Bexar County Elections during the primary in 2020.
* SA City Council races: we had 9 Candidates out of 11 races in to include a mayoral candidate. We almost won the Mayor’s Race, only lost by 2%.
* We took the Senate House 19, with Senator Pete Flores. This is the first time in 139 years it has been red.
* We almost won Texas House District 125 with Candidate Fred Rangel and lost by 1000 votes in a predominantly Democrat district
* We won a Judson ISD School Board position with Lynette Boggs-Perez.
* Teamed up with local candidates educating and training them on how to run a campaign. Demonstrated how run their race and which vendors to use for their products. Strategically identified the key issues relating to each race. Candidates continually email and call for guidance. This is something that has never been made available to candidates.
* Worked with Precinct Chairs to learn how to use the GOP database.

These are some of the of the advances we have made in Bexar County. We will continue to work towards turning Bexar County RED.Subsequently, the RPBC has been recognized nationally for all our hard work in Bexar County. Tony Renteria founder of Poder Latino said he has been in politics since he helped former President Ronald Reagan get in office in the 80’s. He had never seen such a strong grassroots effort since that time. None of this would have been possible without the help of our Precinct Chairs and countless volunteers countywide. Thank you for all your help. As we go into Trump 2020 Presidential Reelection, I ask for more volunteers. I have no doubt he will be reelected by a historic landslide. Please call headquarters at 210-824-9445 to volunteer if you want to be a part of it. Thank you in advance.

In God We Trust,
Cynthia Brehm
Chairman
Republican Party of Bexar County

PS: I have both consciously and deliberately not talked about the elephant in the room. What happened to President Trump is bogus and unjustified. This is why Pelosi hasn’t sent it to the Senate—they have nothing. For me, it’s not worth talking about.
