the ongoing efforts by Republicans to control the minds of our children,
silence voices of dissent, and stop school teachers from providing

that book bans reached an all-time high across the country in 2021.^1

New reporting now shows that 2022 has exceeded 2021 in book bans, with
thousands of books being banned in cities, towns, and schools across

Which books are Republicans focused on banning?

40% of banned books featured main characters that are LGBTQ+.^3

40% had main characters that were people of color.^4

And 20% directly addressed race and racism.^5

Republicans are using these bans to push a hateful, homophobic, white
supremacist agenda, but they will not succeed.
