I need to be honest with you, John:
A few weeks ago, a new report was released that had me really worried — scientists are saying that there is currently no credible pathway to limiting earth's warming to 1.5ºC.
But with the biggest threat our planet has ever faced looming over us, I have hope... because here at 350.org, we are preparing to launch an unprecedented solutions campaign to offer communities around the world a pathway to transition to 100 percent renewables. 350.org is building community-owned renewable projects that break our reliance on the fossil fuel industry and set up infrastructure for a just future.
But it will not be easy: Every single fossil fuel company, CEO, and politician in the pockets of Big Oil will try to stop us. Yet, I know that with you by our side, along with hundreds of thousands of climate supporters around the world, we can — and will — transition to 100 percent renewables.
Two of 350.org's donors have committed $100,000 in matching funds for Giving Tuesday, November 29, so that we can launch our solutions campaign around the globe. So I am asking if you can donate $3.50 and we will DOUBLE your contribution:
There is so much to do, John. But if we pull this off, we will be able to replace deadly fossil fuel projects with real community-led solutions.
We need to map and research the barriers for implementing renewables, we need to grow our networks and coalitions we're working with to allow for campaign-focused growth, we need to create the most effective trainings, and build all the toolboxes and resources that our movement needs in order to dive into projects and campaigns.
Look, I know that it can be easy to lose hope when fossil fuel companies are making record-breaking profits, when politicians are rolling back climate regulations, and when climate disasters are only increasing in frequency. But every single fraction of a degree of warming matters for billions of people. Now is the time for every one of us to do everything we can:
Thank you for lending a hand today so we can bring justice and power to communities around the globe.
In solidarity,
May Boeve
