Before her loss in this year’s gubernatorial election, Kari Lake spent her time spreading lies about elections, bringing litigation to undermine voting rights and encouraging states to restrict access to voting. But now, she’s criticizing long lines and sharing videos of voters who couldn’t vote because they didn’t register in time. |
In my latest piece, “In Arizona, Election Deniers Suddenly Decry Voter Suppression,” I try to explain Lake’s change of heart. The problems she complains about are all too common in American elections, but Republicans like Lake didn't care. Now, she’s using these issues and voters in a cynical effort to undermine the 2022 election since she can’t blame her loss on anything else. The problems in Arizona should be the basis to make it easier to register and vote. But that would require an honest politician who genuinely cares about voting rights and a Republican Party that would support necessary reforms.
