John,
My name is Nour Kalbouneh and I am one of Immigrants Rising’s 2022 Pre-Law Fund Recipients. My family immigrated to the U.S. from Palestine when I was five years old and after spending most of my childhood in immigration court fighting deportation, I knew I wanted to become a lawyer to try to change the system from within.
Prior to Immigrants Rising’s Pre-Law Program, I did not know a single undocumented person in law school, let alone an undocumented lawyer. It created a space for growth and community that I will be forever grateful for.
Support Immigrants Rising in creating more opportunities for immigrants to thrive regardless of status!

At one memorable Pre-Law Program event featuring undocumented people in the legal field, there was a Middle Eastern panelist. She was studying at Harvard Law School and doing so many amazing things. To be able to see somebody like yourself doing what you want to do someday, it really changes your life. I want everyone to have that kind of opportunity.
After many long months of studying, I just took the LSAT a few days ago and pretty soon I’ll be applying to law schools. I know that I alone am not going to change the way the legal system fails immigrants, but every time I think about changing paths, I just keep coming back to this feeling that I have to try. I have to become an attorney and try my best to help as many people as I can.
