Friend, I know I talk a lot about how we need more transparency and accountability in our government. Well, I want to start by bringing those same principles to my campaign, which is why I'm going to be completely up front with you about our campaign's financial situation and explain exactly why I'm asking for a contribution today.

We have a tough, expensive race ahead of us, and the budget goals we set are designed to make sure we're raising the money we need to win. I think it's important that you know these budgets we set aren't arbitrary.

We know exactly how much it's going to take to win this race because we did it last year. We know how much it costs to put an ad on TV, buy enough supplies for all our volunteers, and fill up the tank a couple hundred times so I can drive around the district, talk to voters, and get our message out.

Sometimes campaigns build in a buffer in their budget goals, so if they fall short they still have the resources to fund their campaigns. I refuse to do that. I don't want to ask for a penny more than I have to, or mislead you about made up goals and budget shortfalls.

When I ask, it's because we need it.
