This weekend, we experienced a horrific tragedy at Club Q, a LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs. My heart breaks for the victims and their families, and for all who know the unimaginable pain of losing a loved one to gun violence.
This tragedy marks yet another hate-fueled attack on the LGBTQ community. As hate speech and bigotry continue to plague our nation, the LGBTQ community is paying for it with their lives. Enough. Hatred has no home in Colorado, and we have to stop it from having a home anywhere.
No words can explain this senseless tragedy. Sending “thoughts and prayers” simply isn’t good enough. We must stand up against hatred towards the LGBTQ community and prevent these unspeakable acts of violence.
As long as I’m in the Senate, I will continue our work to give people the freedom to be who they are, love who they love, and live full lives. And I’ll never stop fighting to reform our gun laws at the federal level so we can keep weapons from falling into the hands of dangerous people.
My heart is heavy for our neighbors in Colorado Springs, for the LGBTQ community, and for all who have lost a loved one to senseless gun violence. I hear you, I see you, I will never stop fighting with you.
With love,
John
