Zelensky Invokes the Maidan Protests
Exactly nine years after the start of protests that led to the ouster of a pro-Russian president and set up a confrontation with Moscow, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine drew on the theme of freedom that drove those demonstrations to brace a war-weary public for what promises to be a bleak winter.
In a video address to the nation on Monday, Mr. Zelensky highlighted how Ukraine’s commitment to the principles that animated the so-called Maidan revolution have endured since Russia’s full-scale invasion, as the NYT reports. |
OPEC + Eyes Output Increase
Saudi Arabia and other OPEC oil producers are discussing an output increase, the group’s delegates said, a move that could help heal a rift with the Biden administration and keep energy flowing amid new attempts to blunt Russia’s oil industry over the Ukraine war, as the WSJ reports. |

Another perfect album is Bob Dylan’s 1997 late career masterpiece, “Time Out of Mind.” On January 27th, Dylan is releasing “Fragments: Time Out of Mind Sessions (1996-1997).” Daniel Lanois produced “Time Out of Mind,” and the atmospherics he added to the record are one of the most critically acclaimed and notable elements of the album. But Dylan wasn’t as happy with the way the Lanois production sounded as critics were. On “Fragments,” Dylan will release a trove of stripped down outtakes, remixes, and never before released live performances. A couple of days ago he dropped the first of them: “Love Sick (Take 2).” I thought the original “Love Sick” was one of Dylan’s greatest works. “Take 2” takes it to another level—it’s otherworldly. |
