Friends,

On Saturday, we lost five young members of our Colorado community in another tragic shooting — this time at an LGBTQ nightclub, Club Q. I’m thinking of the families and loved ones of those we lost and sending strength to those who were injured, the survivors, and Colorado’s LGBTQ community.

Hate-fueled attacks like this are especially tragic because we know more can be done to prevent them. We must do more to combat hate and protect our LGBTQ community, and we must act to keep weapons out of the hands of those who seek to commit acts of violence:

  1. We need to build on the bipartisan gun safety legislation we passed this year and keep dangerous weapons off our streets.

  2. We need to address our mental health crisis and have a serious discussion about combating online extremism.

  3. We need to stand firm alongside our LGBTQ neighbors in the face of intolerance and discrimination. It’s on all of us to build a state and nation where everyone is accepted, respected, and loved.

Violence and hate have no home in Colorado. Let this tragedy in Colorado Springs be a reminder of the urgent work ahead of us. Let us fight tirelessly to prevent more loss of life.

Today, I am asking you to split a contribution between One Colorado, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing LGBTQ rights in Colorado, and the Colorado Healing Fund, a nonprofit supporting the survivors, victims’ families, and the community.
