Assault weapons have been used in all of the deadliest mass shootings in our country’s history, including the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting, the deadliest attack on the LGBTQ+ community. Assault weapons are favored by mass shooters because they are especially deadly. They make it easy to fire a large number of high-power shots quickly.
At Club Q, two brave, unarmed bystanders were able to stop the shooter and save countless lives, disproving the popular myth that the only thing that stops a “bad guy” with a gun is a “good guy” with a gun. But no one should be forced to confront a shooter armed with an assault weapon. No one should be forced to wonder if a night out at a safe and affirming space will turn deadly. No one should live like this. No one should die like this.
Join our call to disarm hate and keep assault weapons out of our communities.
Today we are sending love and healing to our queer family as we commit to honoring the victims and survivors of Club Q with action.
