Last week, Congress came back into session for the first time since the election. The Capitol was buzzing with the energy of our newly-elected colleagues, like Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, and those who won hard-fought races, like Rep. Kim Schrier and Sen. Patty Murray.
So, let me start by thanking you once again for all your hard work and dedication in returning me to Congress, helping Patty, Kim and Marie – and so many others across the country – get across the finish line.
It appears that the Republicans will take control of the House of Representatives, by a very, very narrow margin. That means that we are going to face an unending series of votes on bills that run counter to our Democratic values. I am not afraid to vote no. But I will also never stop looking for opportunities to work across the aisle to get things done and make life better for Washingtonians and ALL Americans.
One more thing: After twenty years, Nancy Pelosi is stepping aside as our Democratic leader. She has been one of the most effective legislative leaders in American history. It has been an honor and a privilege to join her in guaranteeing affordable health care for millions of Americans, providing relief to working families through recessions and the pandemic, and making historic investments to rebuild America and tackle climate change.
In this season of thanksgiving, I offer you my deepest gratitude and appreciation. Thank you, for all that you do.
Rick
