November 2022: Can’t Wait to Keep Making Progress

Dear friend,

I'm honored to continue to serve Minnesota's 5th Congressional District. I had the opportunity to honor some of our new leaders on the House floor. You can watch my floor speech here.

Hosting VFW Flag Presentations

On Veterans Day, I hosted three VFW flag presentations in Hopkins, Richfield, and Uptown to honor our veterans for their service and sacrifice to our country. Our office will continue to fight to guarantee mental and physical healthcare, housing, and work toward a more peaceful world without endless wars.

Honoring Speaker Pelosi

Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced she will be stepping down from House Democratic Leadership. She is a first among firsts—the first woman to ever serve as Speaker of the House and the first to lead any party in any chamber of the U.S. Congress. One of my great joys as a Member was traveling to Ghana with the Speaker in 2019 during the 400th anniversary of slavery in our country. As supporters of the President of the United States chanted calls of “send her back,” she invited me personally to join her on this trip, to represent how far we have come as a country. It has been a deep honor to serve with her directly in the House—to see her skills as a strategist, vote-counter and mentor up close, and to learn directly from her wisdom and experience. You can read my full statement here.

Calling on Biden Administration to Support Loss & Damage Funding for Developing Countries at COP27

Image
I joined Rep. Jamaal Bowman to urge Special Envoy John Kerry to support loss & damage (L&D) funding to help developing countries recover from climate disasters. This fund should channel new public funding from developed to developing countries to help them recover from climate disasters. This L&D proposal could be a small yet important first step in pushing U.S. policy towards transformative climate and economic justice globally. You can read more here.

Fighting to Extend Marijuana Pardon to Immigrants

Image
I joined my colleagues, Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jesús G. “Chuy” García to call on the Biden Administration to pardon all simple marijuana possession offenses, regardless of immigration status, and prioritize decriminalizing and rescheduling marijuana and reopening the immigration cases of those who were deported for marijuana-related offenses.
