Nottingham Castle Trust

Nottingham Castle

The announcement today from Nottingham Castle Trust that it is in the process of appointing liquidators and closing the site to hand back to the council is hugely disappointing and a significant blow for the city and its visitor economy.

Our immediate priority is to work with the appointed liquidators to safeguard the site and its collections while it is not operational and to support staff at the Castle affected. We appreciate the significant efforts they put into the site and understand how devastated they must be by this news.

We will re-open the castle as soon as possible. Once we have a clearer picture from the liquidators, we will explore all available options together with our key partners The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Arts Council England and others to develop a fresh business model.

There is a real commitment from all parties to see this important cultural asset fulfil its full potential for the city and the wider region as a successful visitor attraction, playing a key part in our wider plans to bring investment, jobs, visitors and growth to Nottingham and its residents.

Nottingham named one of top cities in the world for climate action

Carbon Disclosure Project [ [link removed] ]

For the second year, Nottingham has been recognised as one of the top cities in the world for taking bold leadership on climate action by the internationally recognised Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), an environmental impact non-profit organisation.

The city is one of 122 globally to receive the highest ?A List? score, making it one of the top 12%. Over 1,000 cities received a rating for their climate action from CDP, and Nottingham has achieved the highest ranking alongside 19 other local authorities in the UK, including: Belfast, Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester and Newcastle.

The city has an ambitious target to be the first carbon neutral city in the UK and Europe by 2028 and receiving ?A List? status from CDP recognises Nottingham?s progress in building momentum to tackle the climate crisis, both in reducing emissions and building resilience to the impacts of climate change in Nottingham.

Talking lamp posts arrive in Nottingham

Climate change [ [link removed] ]

Hello Nottingham, a partnership project between the City Council and the University of Nottingham, will allow people in the city to talk to lamp posts, bins, park benches and more about climate change.

Signs with instructions on how to take part were installed across the city as part of a year-long scheme, which has been financed by Digital Nottingham ? a university initiative that uses technology and innovation to solve local challenges.

The Hello Nottingham project aims to raise awareness of climate change and Nottingham?s ambition to be a carbon neutral city by 2028 (CN28). The thoughts and ideas shared will help the City Council to understand local attitudes about the environment and will inform future CN28 campaigns.

If you have bright ideas about how we can become a greener city, find a sign and have a chat!

Don?t forget to book your Autumn Booster

Autumn booster

If you are over 50, or have a long-term health condition, you can still top up your immunity against flu and COVID-19 by booking to have the Autumn Booster.

Cases of flu and Covid are expected to increase over the winter months, so I would encourage all those who are most at risk, to get the booster to help keep you safe.

Levels of protection can fall over time, so even if you?ve already had COVID-19, you will still need to top up your immunity.

You can find your nearest vaccination centre and book online at nhs.uk [ [link removed] ].

Clifton fire tragedy

I was so saddened to hear the tragic news yesterday about the fire at a property in Clifton in which two young children died and a woman was critically injured. We will do all we can to support the family and community at this deeply upsetting time; working in partnership with Nottingham City Homes, the police and the fire service.
