Celebrating Christmas in Dales ward

christmas

We are preparing for Christmas in Dales Ward with our Christmas tree and lights now ordered.

The lights will be switched on with local school children on Wednesday 7th December between 1.30 and 2pm.

We have written to Santa to see if he has half an hour spare on that day! We will also be having our usual Christmas Fair on Thursday December 15th between 4 and 7pm at St Christopher’s Church.

Making our roads safer with Streets for People

As your local councilors, we are taking measures to slow down speeding traffic in Bakersfield.

Speed humps are currently being installed on Parkdale Rd in Bakersfield as well as a ‘raised platform’ at the junction with Eastdale Rd. Whilst these measures are being installed, the road is going to be resurfaced thanks to a successful council bid to a government fund for road improvements.

We have also been able to use this funding to resurface Highcliffe Road in Sneinton which is badly in need of repair. At the same time, we are consulting residents about a way of making the pavement on this road safer for pedestrians through dividing the parking areas from the areas where residents and school children walk on a daily basis.

See what Streets for People improvements are planned near you online.

Making our parks even better

Neghat and David recently visited Colwick Park to see the new accessible path from Racecourse Rd towards the lakes which is part of ongoing improvements to this increasingly popular part of Dales Ward. The new path will enable more people to enjoy this beautiful park.

As your local councilors we have been pleased to fund new litter bins for the park so that visitors can keep the park clean.

In addition, we have used our local funding to help repair the slide at Green’s Windmill Park which now is safe to use. We have also brought in a revised parking scheme on the Windmill Carpark which is still free to park in for a couple of hours, but people wishing to park for longer will have to pay. This should stop people parking here all day preventing visitors to the Mill having somewhere to park.

Cost of living

As winter approaches and the cost of living crisis bites, we have launched a campaign to tell people where to look for money help and advice in Nottingham.

The Ask Lion website www.asklion.co.uk/money is a useful one-stop-shop that pulls together simple steps everyone can take to help manage their finances. The advice covers budgeting, benefits, savings, debt, housing problems, food banks and ways to reduce household bills.

The asklion website also signposts people to a wide range of support agencies who can give you free and confidential advice with more complex money problems.

There is obviously a close link between money worries, stress and anxiety. So it’s important to know that mental health support is also available through www.asklion.co.uk/mentalhealth with a directory of local confidential support services.

If you’re worried about money this winter, the important thing to remember is that you are not alone and help is available in Nottingham.

Have your say on how waste and recycling is collected in Nottingham

Waste consultation

The UK Government has set a national target to increase the amount of waste recycled in England to 65%, while keeping waste that ends up in landfill below 10%. The Government is also introducing new collection rules for food waste and recycling to deliver more consistency across England.

To achieve these goals, the City Council is proposing new options for waste and recycling collections in Nottingham. These include:

  • Working on initiatives to help people reuse and repair items rather than throwing them away
  • Helping people to manage waste well and recycle the right things
  • Starting food waste collections
  • Making changes to how we collect recycling
  • Offering smaller general waste bins
  • Increasing our fleet of ‘alternative-fuel’ bin lorries

To help us shape the final strategy, we want you to tell us your thoughts on waste and recycling in Nottingham. Sharing your opinions will allow us to create a new strategy that works for the city.
