Nothing happens without trust. U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) field offices have a central role in earning and maintaining the trust of our clients, which is the currency that makes the effective provision of client-centered services possible. USCRI field offices are the initial and primary places refugees turn for family support in a new country and its unfamiliar culture. Our field office staff work endlessly to deliver quality services focused on building long-term relationships with our clients. With your help, we can’t let them down.

Refugee women are particularly at risk. Navigating new systems in a new country is always challenging, particularly for women. Women are usually the primary caregivers, so many haven’t had opportunities to develop job skills. As primary caregivers, they have difficulty leaving their homes to attend training classes. They are usually not the first in their families to obtain driver’s licenses. Many were not allowed to drive in their home countries, making a driver’s license yet another cultural bridge to cross.
Our Field Offices are creating women-centered programming to open doors and remove barriers for refugee women by creating equitable access to resources.
* We focus on accessible English language classes, helping women obtain driver’s licenses, and navigating complex medical systems for care. We also provide parenting classes, support groups, and skill-building workshops.

* Thanks to donors like you, women from Afghanistan attend universities, obtain driver’s licenses, and access needed health care for themselves and their children.

Field offices provide services and programming funded locally through your gifts and local and state funding. Programming that addresses children and youth needs, local transportation, and necessities like school supplies are chronically underfunded. Your vital donations help fill these critical funding and service gaps.

Single-family households, usually headed by women, experience chronic basic needs such as challenging child-care costs, work uniforms and shoes, and housing-related needs. These necessities are not covered by the larger program grants but are met by your thoughtful, generous gifts.
In this Thanksgiving season, remember that many of our clients are experiencing their first Thanksgiving in their new homes. Field offices across the country are extending a purposeful welcome to our new arrivals with grocery gift cards so families can purchase culturally appropriate foods for their holidays. We ramp up coat drives and drives for in-kind gifts such as household items, cleaning supplies, and personal care items.

Field offices are the face of USCRI to most of our clients. Please join us in being there for them with your gifts designated to the field office of your choice.

Thanksgiving is about abundant welcome and gratitude. Thank you for your partnership and support in making a difference in the lives of the people we serve!
