John --,

We launched a petition yesterday to call on Congress to do their job and hold the Executive branch accountable to stop the impending war in Iran.

The assassination of Gen. Soleimani is an unambiguous act of war conducted without Congressional authorization. The Trump administration has taken us to the brink of another pointless war, threatening the lives of millions of innocent people and further destabilizing global peace and security.

The escalations are snowballing. Last night, Trump tweeted a threat to Iran to bomb 52 important cultural sites with no regard for the life of individuals abroad. Signaling once again that there’s no consideration for the human cost of war. These petty and outrageous threats underscore Congress’ responsibility to stand up and immediately halt this President's (or any president’s) abilities to engage in war without Congressional approval.

Congress must take immediate and decisive action.

Brand New Congress candidates are standing up with a unified voice. Thirty-one BNC candidates across 17 states were the first to sign on to demand action today. We are asking you to join them.

Help us send a message by signing our petition today to demand Congress take immediate and decisive action to prevent Trump starting a war with Iran.

Congress must:

1. Immediately repeal the 2001 AUMF by voting on the War Powers Resolution

2. Reintroduce and immediately vote on the National Defense Authorization Act amendment which would block the funding for further attacks on Iran without Congressional approval
