Rewarding good works: Heritage announced six new recipients of its Innovation Prize.   

• Winners are the Alliance for Opportunity, Americans United for Life, Charlotte Lozier Institute, Defense of Freedom Institute, Forge Leadership Network, and Thomas Jefferson Institute for Public Policy. 
• Innovation Prizes, totaling up to $1 million a year, support projects that advance the conservative cause—especially those focused on our seven policy priorities.

A silver lining: The midterms were mostly a disappointment for conservatives, but there’s one positive note—those who advanced education choice won overwhelmingly.  

• Support for expanding education choices is growing, even among parents who don’t use their state’s education choice programs.  
• Education choice also becoming a nonpartisan issue.

Key vote: 12 Republicans joined Democrats to move the misnamed “Respect for Marriage Act” forward. Don’t let the name fool you; it poses a real threat to religious liberty.  

• It “will weaponize the federal government against believers of nearly every major religion,” said Heritage President Kevin Roberts. Read more here.

The problem: The U.S. military faces a recruitment crisis that it does not seem to know how to fix.

• So, Heritage assembled the first-ever National Independent Panel on Military Service and Readiness, composed of a distinguished group of policymakers, thought leaders, veterans, and defense experts.
