I protested because we cannot have another disastrous war in the Middle East. I protested because we cannot allow the continuation of executive privileges like those that allowed Trump to order the drone attack on Suleimani without Congressional approval. MO-01’s incumbent Congressman supported the National Defense Authorization Act that allows the president to use executive privilege to take dangerous and aggressive actions, and in doing so, he supported ignoring the will of the American people.
He has to go. Democrats who allow Trump to recklessly gamble with our national security, our troops’ lives, and the fate of innocent civilians abroad should not even be allowed to call themselves Democrats.
We need actual advocates for peace in Congress - people who truly believe in a better path than war. I come from a strong military family and have seen the real cost of war. Our brave troops, their families, and the American people deserve better, which is why I’ll never support military action unless it’s absolutely necessary. The many innocent brown women, children, families, and civilians in Iran and across the Middle East also deserve better.
Peace is possible, but only through the election of brand-new Congresspeople who will advocate for it. Will you help us stand up for peace?
The stakes for 2020 were already high, and they just got higher. While we may feel helpless to stop the immediate consequences of this assassination, we have to remember we DO have a say - through our votes.
Let’s make 2020 the year that we choose peace over war.
In solidarity,
Cori
