Dear John,
Whether it’s to stop rainforest destruction, water pollution, or carbon emissions, U.S. law provides everyday shareholders the power to hold corporations to a higher standard. This has been essential in holding Big Polluters accountable for their destruction of our environment.
But the Trump Administration is committed to selling out people and our planet for corporate gain. So it’s no surprise that Trump’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently voted to limit the ability of ordinary investors to influence corporations.
The SEC’s proposed rule changes would make companies less accountable to shareholders and make it more difficult to rein in corporate power. But these changes aren’t finalized. Now, we need your help demanding the agency protect citizen power. But we must act fast!
Tell Trump’s SEC to protect our right to rein in corporate power!
Shareholder resolutions are a powerful tool for everyday people like you and me to hold corporations accountable for the destruction they cause. And they’re integral in our fight to protect our planet from fossil fuel destruction. That’s why Trump is trying to gut these rights!
Shareholder resolutions have pushed Big Oil and Gas companies to report on the risks of climate change and build business plans in alignment with the Paris Climate Agreement. They have forced companies like ADM, Bunge, Tyson and Kroger to get conflict palm oil and deforestation out of their supply chains.
Most importantly, resolutions highlighting human rights risks in global supply chains have helped to curtail human trafficking and forced labor. But Trump’s corporate cronies are pressuring the SEC to wipe these rules off the books to make it more difficult for ordinary investors to vote with their dollars.
We have just a few weeks to flood the SEC with comments demanding the agency upholds current shareholder rights. Can we count on you in this fight, John?
Sign your name: Stop Trump from gutting Shareholder Activism!
The Trump Administration has been systematically dismantling existing regulations on the environment, the financial system, healthcare, labor, and so many other critical issues.
The move by the SEC bows to the Trump deregulatory agenda and deals a serious blow to our power to hold corporations accountable.
Engaged environmentalists like you have helped bring about consistent, enduring progress to reform corporate practices. In the start of this new decade, we cannot allow Trump’s disdain for democracy undermine our ability to make change!
Tell the SEC to uphold shareholder activism and ensure that people have the power!
