Wednesday, January 8th, 2020 - Energize Eastside public hearing, Renton

As representatives of local environmental groups, CENSE invites you or others from your organization to provide oral comments (probably limited to 3 minutes) at the Energize Eastside public hearing in Renton on Wednesday, Jan. 8, starting at 5:00 pm (at Renton City Hall, 1055 South Grady Way).

Why is your participation important? Because PSE will be organizing testimony from many businesses, hospitals, and civic organizations that benefit from PSE financial support. They will attempt to convince the hearing examiner to approve an unnecessary transmission line that will destroy thousands of trees, increase carbon emissions, and sap hundreds of millions of dollars from smart energy investments and policies that could make a real difference for the environment (more solar panels, batteries, demand response, energy efficiency, etc.)

Sign-up to host a Sunrise Green New Deal launch party
2020 is going to be a turning point for our generation's future, but whether it goes our way is up to us. Scientists around the world are clear, inaction on the climate crisis will be a death sentence for millions of people. For the first time in our lives, we have an opportunity to elect a President who will stand up to fossil fuel billionaires and fight with the urgency science demands to give all of us a chance at a just and prosperous future.
But to make that a reality, it's going to take all of us. We need millions of young people along with allies of all ages to join climate strikes, organize their communities and then turn out in force in November to decide this election. From small towns to cities to Washington, DC, we need to make the climate crisis and the Green New Deal the defining issues of the 2020 elections.
All of us can't just include you, me and people already in Sunrise. That won't be enough. That's why we need people everywhere to kick off the new year by hosting a gathering and inviting your community - your friends, your families, your classmates - to share the vision of the Green New Deal and learn how we can all be part of a movement powerful enough to win. Whether you're just learning about the Green New Deal for the first time or ready to go all-in for 2020, we want you to hold a 2020 launch party in late January!

Legislative update - request from 350 Seattle Civic Action Team
Please call and write:
Senate President Andy Billig - (509) 209 - 2427 - [email protected]
Floor Majority Leader Sen. Marko Liias - (360) 786-7640 - [email protected]
Is your Senator a Democrat? Let them know too! Look them up here.

The numbered bills passed the Senate last session and are ready to be sent to the House. The GHG bill updates state targets to match current science — let’s make sure it gets an early start so it can pass this session. More about the bills here.

Next, can you call and write House leadership and urge them to make these bills a priority?
HB 1110, Clean Fuels Standard
HB 1793, Don't Block the Box
HB 1847, Aircraft Noise Abatement
HB 1597, Upstream Methane Emissions
Buy Clean, Buy Fair, Rep. Beth Doglio, sponsor

Please call and write:
Speaker-designate Rep. Laurie Jinkins - (253) 593 - 2033 - [email protected]
Floor Majority Leader Rep. Monica Jurado Stonier - (360) 690 - 4700 - [email protected]
Are your Representatives Democrats? Let them know too! Look them up here.

While the House isn’t caucusing next week, now is the ideal time to let our Reps know that we expect action on climate. The first four bills have already passed the House, so they’re ready to send to Senate. “Buy Clean” is significant for reducing emissions from the manufacture of building materials. It deserves a strong start! More about the bills here.

Lastly, can you take a moment to let us know your district and that you took action? Please take our quick survey.

Let's make 2020 a year to remember!!

In solidarity,
Phil, Lynn, Bonnie, Emily, Marilyn, Sara, and Lin
